The Cessna Citation CJ4, like its predecessor the Citation CJ3, is a stretch extension of the previous Citation Jet model. It differs most significantly from the previous models in its moderately swept wing design which it borrows from the Citation Sovereign.

As of April 2023, 51% of the Citation CJ4 ownership comes from the pre-owned market, the other 49% from new. 2.4% of those are currently for sale, with 100% under an exclusive broker agreement. For those on the market, the average sale time is 2.9 months.

Brief History

The first flight of the Citation CJ4 took place on May 5, 2008. Deliveries began in 2010 and production ended in 2020.

Worldwide Appeal

There are currently 340 Citation CJ4 aircraft in operation worldwide. The majority of those (321) are wholly owned with 19 in shared ownership and none in fractional ownership. 13% are currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of wholly owned Citation CJ4 aircraft (79%), followed by Europe (14%). 11% of the CJ4 jets in operation today are in fleet ownership with the government in Japan – Ministry of Land, Infrastucture.

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

As the controller for Jetcraft Corporation I am responsible for the worldwide financials, reporting, cash management and things of that nature.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

My typical day starts with getting a feel for my emails and what’s happened throughout the evenings in the world. I also look to see what deals we have planned for the week and then in general just check in with my team to see what their needs are to complete any activities for the day.

Describe the company culture at Jetcraft and what it means to you?

For me the company culture means Family. I came from a larger corporation before I moved to Jetcraft and I feel like I’m part of a family when I’m here. I have a lot of colleagues around the world. We know their kids names, we know their spouses names and being able to come together once a year really brings that family atmosphere together.

First up in our series, you all know him as our SVP Sales in EMEA, but we also know him as rally driving extraordinaire – it’s Pascal Bachmann.

Pascal, why did you decide to start racing? 

I discovered my love for racing when I was living in Lausanne, Switzerland. My friends and I would take my Mini out driving in the mountains on snowy nights and this is where I discovered the exhilaration of testing my driving ability.

As Antoine de Saint Exupéry, French aviator and pioneer of the Aeropostale once said, “It is by measuring oneself against the machine that a man learns his true value.” It’s this philosophy that drives me to do my best.

I vividly remember watching my first rally, witnessing the crews launching themselves through the dark night in pursuit of the fastest time and knowing “this is what I want to do.” Despite financial constraints, my friends and I gathered funds for a used car, modified it, and entered the same rally the following year. Alongside my co-pilot, we had no idea what we were doing, but it was exhilarating and crazy.

How long have you been racing for? 

My racing journey started in 1987. There were intermittent years when I couldn’t afford to participate, but whenever I accumulated enough funds, I eagerly joined in and so did my wife, Valerie. We each had our own cars and co-driver, and we would enter the same rallies. I remember one year we had to take our newborn daughter with us during a race recce, so we stopped every two hours or so to give her a bottle and change her.

Product Overview

The G-IV is an upgraded evolution of the G-III with a 54-inch cabin stretch and six cabin windows. The aircraft is fitted with two Rolls-Royce Tay MK 610-8 engines which are more powerful and fuel-efficient than the Spey MK 511-8 model that the G-II and G-III were powered by. The Gulfstream G-IV also became the first business jet to have an entire glass cockpit with an advanced EFIS avionics suite and six-color CRT displays.

As of April 2023, 94% of the Gulfstream G-IV ownership comes from the pre-owned market, the other 6% from new. 12.4% of those are currently for sale, with the majority under an exclusive broker agreement (79%). For those on the market, the average time on the market is 10.4 months. Over the past 12 months, the Gulfstream G-IV has averaged 2 full retail transactions per month.

Brief History

Design work on the G-IV began in early 1983, with the first of four production prototypes making first flight on September 19, 1985. FAA certification was awarded on April 22, 1987.

The G-IV began operational service with serial number 1000 in 1987 and was upgraded to the special purpose G-IV-SP version at serial number 1214 in 1993. A total of 196 Gulfstream G-IV aircraft have been produced.

There are currently 153 Gulfstream G-IV aircraft in operation worldwide. The majority of those (149) are wholly owned with 4 in shared ownership and none in fractional ownership. 7.8% are currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of wholly owned Gulfstream G-IV aircraft (86%) followed by Asia (7%).

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

I tend to get up and see what my counterparts in Hong Kong and Australia have cooking for the day. Often, information that you had requested the night before, will get responses early in the morning, due to time difference.

Describe the company culture at Jetcraft and what it means to you?

The company culture a Jetcraft really is just one gigantic team. There isn’t anybody that you can’t call on throughout a deal that’s not going to drop what they are doing to give you a hand. That teamwork is really important. Jahid has made a point of bringing us all together several times a year, so you really get to know your colleagues and their families which only adds to the family atmosphere.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is the people that I interact with from both my team and the client side of things. People that buy private jets are interesting people by in large, so I love the client interaction. And the team at Jetcraft is really second to none.

Today, at the Paris International Air Show, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited (De Havilland Canada) and Jetcraft Commercial signed a Purchase Agreement for Jetcraft Commercial to acquire 10 new DHC-6 Twin Otter® Classic 300-G™ aircraft.

Product Overview

The Challenger 600 is a twin turbofan large-cabin wide-body business jet best recognized for its very wide cabin. It was one of the first business jets designed with a supercritical wing. The Challenger 600 has four backup power systems, thrust reversers and APU. It is known to be a spacious, comfortable cabin with low noise and vibration levels.

As of December 2022, 98% of the Bombardier Challenger 600 aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owner, the other 2% new. 6% are for sale with the majority of those (67%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale the average time on the market is 413 days.

Brief History

The Challenger 600 was originally developed in the mid-1970s to be the Learstar 600 in collaboration between Canadair and Bill Lear of Learjet. In 1976 Canadair purchased the Learstar rights and redesigned it to be the Challenger. It was then certified in 1980. 34 challenger 600 business jets have been retired.

The aviation specialist predicts a total of 11,429 transactions representing $74.4B in revenue over the next five years 

The return of the corporate buyer has played a key role in driving unprecedented business aviation demand, according to new research from Jetcraft, the global leader in business aircraft sales and acquisitions. 

Ever Forward, Jetcraft’s 2023 Pre-Owned Business Jet Market Forecast reveals that continued growth is predicted for the years ahead, despite an inevitable market correction in 2023, setting new annual benchmarks for volume and value. In 2022, transaction values hit a record $16.3B, driven in part by the resurgence of corporate aviation, following a dip during the pandemic. 

Jetcraft’s data shows that the share of Jetcraft buyers coming from the corporate sector reached 60% in 2022, demonstrating the value corporations place on jet ownership.

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

My main responsibilities are the Africa market. I travel around Africa to all the different locations to handle aircraft sales transactions and look for inbound aircraft for us to market internationally.

A typical day working from my home office starts by checking any leads that came through overnight. I’ll respond to those, then follow up with any previous leads or active transactions that require my attention throughout the day. To keep the momentum going, I then reflect on the rest of my pipeline.
