As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together and share my thoughts on the opportunities ahead. This tradition of pausing and sharing our vision is one I look forward to every year.

Private aviation has continued to prove its critical role in connecting people and businesses, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency. The market has demonstrated remarkable resilience, despite predictions, and I want to reinforce that confidence. Across the industry, we’re seeing healthy order books for new aircraft, strong energy in the preowned sector, and an overall improvement in supply – a far more stable environment than during the supply challenges of recent years. Buyers and sellers are also better aligned on values and expectations. These shifts create greater predictability and sustainability, benefiting all.

At Jetcraft, we reached significant milestones reflecting the dedication and expertise of our team. From record-breaking transactions to the continued growth of our global network, our achievements demonstrate why we remain a leader. I’m proud of the completion of our EMEA sales team restructure and the expansion of our US leadership with two new Regional Vice Presidents, strategic moves perfectly positioned to serve our clients, wherever they are.

Of course, 2024 also brought its share of challenges. We remain mindful of the complexities in global markets, particularly in regions experiencing conflict. These events remind us of the importance of acting with sensitivity and awareness – values we hold deeply as a business.

The year ahead is full of innovation. We’re investing more in AI and technology to support smarter, faster transactions. Our annual forecast – having served the industry for a decade – is undergoing a major revamp and will soon return, better than ever, to provide the data and insights our sector relies on.

None of this would be possible without our incredible team, the loyalty of our clients, and the trust of our partners. I’m grateful to you all for making 2024 another successful year.

As we move into 2025, I’m optimistic. The market is strong, and Jetcraft is well-positioned to drive it. Together, we will continue to set new standards and shape the future of business aviation.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Wishing you a successful, prosperous, and bright New Year.

Navigating the future – how electric flight will drive business aviation https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/12/navigating-the-future-how-electric-flight-will-drive-business-aviation/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/12/navigating-the-future-how-electric-flight-will-drive-business-aviation/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 14:07:19 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=107467 This summer, a team of intrepid pilots and engineers undertook the first ever ‘Tour de France’ in an electric aircraft. Over 17 days, The Elektro Tour covered 2,400 kilometers across the French Alps in a Pipistrel Velis Electro, flying for more than 50 hours with zero CO2 emissions and an 80% reduction in noise pollution.

With electric flight continually demonstrating greater range, the challenge offered a glimpse into a future where zero emission and sustainably powered business aircraft can soar the skies.

As part of our series exploring business aviation as a business tool, we spoke with Emmanuel Rety, the founder of the Elektro Tour to learn more about the potential for this technology.

Emmanuel, where did the idea for the Elektro Tour come from?

Avialpes, our flight school and airline were the first Approved Training Organization (ATO) in France to buy an electric training aircraft – the Pipistrel Velis Electro. Our staff and students were very excited by the arrival of the plane. One team member suggested we create a Tour de France to raise awareness of electric aviation – with the current maximum flight time of 50 minutes, the idea felt like a brilliant challenge to push the aircraft, so, our team of staff and students began working on a plan.

What were some of the challenges you faced along the way?

As most in this industry know, many factors affect an aircraft’s ability – these constraints are magnified when dealing with an electric machine. We were very lucky during the tour, the weather was set in our favour, but the hardest part was making sure we could keep the aircraft powered. A significant amount of our planning went into finding charging points along the route. We then had an electric van following on the road with the aircraft’s charging equipment and stopped at around 50 airfields across France.

What did your team learn from the experience?

One of the best memories will be the people we met along the way at the airfields, they were all so helpful and friendly. The experience was an opportunity to highlight the advancements in electric aviation to a diverse audience. At each stop, the team was able to interact with local stakeholders, educational teams from flying clubs, current and future pilots interested in developments in the sector. These were truly collaborative moments.

How did it feel to land your final flight in Annecy?

The whole team was very proud, and so pleased to complete the Elektro Tour. It was incredibly rewarding to see our vision come to life, marking a new chapter for this project. The sense of adventure and innovation that inspired us to start work on this project in the first place spurred us on through the tour. There were times of fatigue and stress, but the team worked hard and got this far using their perseverance.

What do you think the project proves to the broader aviation community?

I truly believe this proves that aviation is moving forward. 10 years ago, who would have imagined that pilots could fly a 100% electric tour with a certified electric plane? It is a small step into the future of aviation. This is just the beginning.

Your company Avialpes has a business aviation arm – what do you enjoy about working in the industry?

I’m passionate about showing how aviation, and specifically business aviation, is a real lever to help companies to grow. There is so much opportunity, as the industry is constantly evolving. As customers desire more, we are pushed to be more innovative. This push creates incredible outcomes, with developments made in the industry often becoming front-runners in aviation innovation.

How far away do you think we are from seeing an electric business aircraft in service?

It will come, but it will take some time. In the interim, the focus is on trying to reduce fuel emissions through engine efficiency and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

At Avialpes, we operate a Diamond DA62 aircraft as a taxi airplane. The fuel consumption is just incredible – flying between Annecy and Cannes you burn less fuel than if you were to make the journey by car and you can fly more directly, so the mileage is less.

Annecy Airport is also building a SAF station, and we are working with Diamond to get the approval to use SAF in our aircraft. With this, we hope to become the greenest air taxi charter company.

Finally, what steps would you like to see the aviation industry take to reduce its carbon emissions and become more sustainable?

New technology is essential to move forward. We’re really excited to be part of projects such as the EENUEE electric aircraft design. Air taxi and business jet operators or owners will be the first users of such aircraft. The challenge is big, but the aviation industry is working hard and I’m confident aviation is always the most efficient way to travel.

Exploring the Australian Business Aviation Market https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/11/exploring-the-australian-business-aviation-market/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/11/exploring-the-australian-business-aviation-market/#respond Thu, 07 Nov 2024 11:37:10 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=105154 Australia’s vast landscape, coupled with its growing economy, has positioned the country as a key player in business aviation. It is the second largest market in the Asia Pacific, with approximately 230 business aircraft. This fleet has seen significant evolution over the past five years and experienced a net increase of around 10%, spurred by a mix of pre-owned and new aircraft acquisitions. At Corporate Jet Investor Asia last month, decision makers from across business aviation came together to explore topics ranging from the current turboprop market in Australia to the future of the market in the region.

Here are our key takeaways.

Fleet modernization and demand

Older models traditionally dominated the Australian fleet, but today we’re seeing rapid modernization, as owners are upgrading their aircraft. The Australian charter market has also matured significantly and many new clients, particularly those introduced to business aviation during the pandemic, are transitioning from chartering to purchasing pre-owned.

The market now spans very light jets (VLJs), for shorter domestic routes, to ultra-long-range aircraft that enable one-stop flights to destinations including London and New York. Larger, more sophisticated aircraft such as Bombardier’s Global 7500 have also made a significant impact, with eight units entering the market, highlighting Australia’s demand for ultra-long-range travel. This growth is driven by a diverse range of customers, from private owners to charter operators, who increasingly opt for versatile aircraft capable of international travel and suited to Australia’s extensive geography.

Activity surge in Australia

The pandemic saw an unexpected boom in the pre-owned business aviation market, as travelers sought alternatives to commercial airlines. This shift brought in a new segment of owners who had never explored our sector, and as a result, the VLJ segment saw substantial growth, with fleet size doubling over five years. Aircraft like the Cessna Citation Mustang and the Phenom 100/300s are a popular choice for short-haul flights between Sydney and Melbourne and have become increasingly common.

Additionally, the Pilatus PC-12, often called the “Range Rover” of Australia, saw a rise in demand. These turboprop aircraft are frequently used for traversing the country’s remote corners, emphasizing their importance in the Australian market, where rugged terrain is a key consideration.

Infrastructure and maintenance

Despite the market’s growth, Australia faces some infrastructure challenges. While major airports are equipped to handle increased activity, the country’s limited number of airfields compared to regions such as the US restricts flexibility. Additionally, a shortage of pilots and trained crew has made sourcing and maintaining operations more complex, especially during peak times.

However, in recent years there have been measures put in place to combat this, with Bombardier’s opening of a new MRO facility in Melbourne increasing the maintenance options available. This resulted in an increase in owners and operators from South-East Asia choosing Australia for their aircraft’s major maintenance events.

Future of the market

While infrastructure and staffing may pose some challenges, the increased wealth coming into Australia from industries including technology and online gaming will see the business aviation market here continue its positive trajectory.

The role of well-structured financial solutions https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/10/the-role-of-well-structured-financial-solutions/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/10/the-role-of-well-structured-financial-solutions/#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 14:49:11 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=103965 Aircraft acquisition is a capital-intensive and time-consuming process that involves significant technical and financial considerations, while also requiring close collaboration with banks and investors.

Well-structured financial solutions are therefore essential for carriers today to grow their fleets. Firstly, tailored monetary products and credit facilities ensure timely aircraft procurement and flexible payment structures. Secondly, expert advice can help manage interest rate fluctuations and other risks, preserving liquidity or providing tax benefits.

Because passenger demand doesn’t sleep, the aim is to find a path forward for airlines to maintain operational stability and remain competitive.

Managing risks

Timely and well-aligned financing is critical to avoid the pitfalls of an aircraft acquisition. Misaligned or delayed advice can lead to increased interest rates, lack of funding availability and missed payment obligations. When airlines have limited fleet capacity due to the delayed acquisition of aircraft, it restricts their ability to meet passenger demand. Inefficient structures not only increase costs therefore, but also limit a carrier’s expansion plans.

Having a proactive approach and partnering with a trusted advisor mitigates uncertainties and challenges for airlines, ensuring operational stability and customer satisfaction.

The value of connections

When looking for a partner in the acquisition process, the key is finding a team that holds close relationships with financial institutions. The right advisor can help in understanding airline needs, offering customized products and ensuring there are no surprises along the way.

Jetcraft Commercial has originated, purchased, sold and remarketed more than 500 aircraft, with a global team that is well-placed to offer innovative and competitive solutions for its customers. We streamline the acquisition process, leveraging our ties with banks, lessors and export credit agencies. Supporting regional airlines and those in developing markets to navigate the complex fiscal landscape is also our speciality, so financing secured is timely and meets specific needs.

Accessing credit

In December 2023, Jetcraft Commercial announced its partnership with Absa Group Limited, enhancing our capability to support strategic growth and market expansion for our airline partners. The credit facility allows Jetcraft Commercial to purchase and hold aircraft while customers secure funds, providing buyers with the flexibility to seize opportunities quickly.

It also supports operators with complex needs and longer purchase timelines, especially in markets where financing may be less readily available. Establishing new lines of credit also opens the door to leasing activities, reflecting the changing dynamics of the commercial aviation market where leasing is becoming more commonplace.

At Jetcraft Commercial, we offer diverse expert consultation, streamlined processes and proactive risk management, ensuring sustainable growth and operational excellence for our customers.

Business Aviation – A Valuable Tool https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/09/business-aviation-a-valuable-tool/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/09/business-aviation-a-valuable-tool/#respond Thu, 05 Sep 2024 15:23:57 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=102253 Business aviation is sometimes described as a ‘time machine’ because of the efficiency it delivers. It also contributes significantly to the economy, creating jobs, connectivity and business opportunities that would not otherwise exist.

To fully understand the benefits of business aviation, we need to consider the role it plays for individuals, corporations and economies, alongside the data that proves the industry’s value.

Individuals

Business aviation offers control, providing flexibility over travel times and destinations that aren’t always available from airlines. When time is money, business aircraft can travel to multiple locations within the same day, maximizing productivity.

The significant value buyers are gaining from their aircraft is further underlined by our data. Usage among corporate and individual buyers has doubled since 2020, while the average flying time of 184 hours per year over the last five years demonstrates the important role jets play for people with limited time.

Corporations

The corporate buyer roared back to life post-Covid – having briefly been overtaken by individuals at the height of the pandemic. This highlights the value businesses place on jet ownership for in-person meetings, with video conferencing a poor second to face-to-face dealmaking. Privacy and security are also core benefits, with executives able to carry out work discreetly while onboard.

The flexibility of business aircraft in terms of range and landing capabilities means the limitations of commercial airports don’t apply. Travelling to fixed-base operators (FBOs) ensures corporations can land closer to their final destination, limiting onward travel time for staff and maximizing efficiency.

The economy

Business aviation supports more than 1.2 million manufacturing and service jobs in the United States, according to data from the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), while in Europe, 459,000 jobs are either directly or indirectly dependent on business aviation, according to the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA).

The industry is also a major driver of economic output, generating €100bn each year in Europe, according to EBAA data, while in the US, it contributes to $246bn in economic output. Each business aircraft landing in the UK supports 100 jobs on average.

Bringing much needed connectivity to communities unserved by the airlines is also a significant point to consider. There are more than 5,000 public use airports in the United States, and fewer than 500 are served by commercial airlines. Meanwhile, in Europe, business aviation connects more than 1400 airports, enabling passengers to travel to three times more destinations than scheduled airlines.

This increased connectivity is a lifeline to smaller communities and rural populations, which are directly linked to big cities and manufacturing facilities as a result, providing jobs and opportunity.

With business aviation such a powerful tool – delivering significant benefits to corporations, individuals and the economy – Jetcraft is committed to helping realize this potential. We achieve this through our ‘boots on the ground’ structure and unrivalled view of the market, which means we are perfectly placed to help buyers identify the right aircraft for their mission at the best price.

The legalities of transacting https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/08/the-legalities-of-transacting/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/08/the-legalities-of-transacting/#respond Tue, 27 Aug 2024 12:17:25 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=101992 With more than 30 offices worldwide, Jetcraft has the edge in negotiating global aircraft sales. Cross border transactions require a dedicated team to navigate the complexities of differing legal systems and language barriers. That’s why our in-house experts work with local counsel to confirm a timely closing, finding creative solutions when challenges arise. Throughout, protecting the interests of our clients and ensuring a fair transaction is paramount.

In this video, Gemma Downs, Corporate Counsel for Jetcraft in EMEA, shares her insights on the legalities of transacting and how buyers and sellers can avoid a deal falling through.

How do you solve the legal complexity of cross border transactions?

In order to overcome the logistical challenges when you have a buyer in one region and a seller in another, the Jetcraft legal team employ local counsel to ensure that we are available in the designated time zone when each party to the transaction is online and awake.

What are the main reasons why a deal would fall through?

In terms of why a transaction would fall through, this is usually due to a mismatch between the requirements of a buyer and the requirements of a seller. And so, in order to mitigate this risk, we try to negotiate our contracts so they are fair and that they cover all of the points that each party requires, whilst also protecting Jetcraft’s interests.

Do you think there is equality of bargaining power between buyers and sellers?

I would say that the bargaining power, between a buyer and a seller varies, transaction to transaction. Sometimes we find that a buyer is in a very strong position. At other times we can find that a seller has a lot of interest in their aircraft and therefore they are in a position where they can entertain multiple offers, and it becomes a bit of a buying frenzy. Our objective as legal counsel is to ensure that the transaction is fair and that the interests of our party are protected and that is paramount for us.

How do you make sure deals are closed on time?

In order to ensure a timely closing on our transactions we make sure that in our purchase agreements the timelines are built in so that we know what is expected of a buyer or a seller at a certain point in the transaction life cycle.

For us, that means we ensure that our documents are placed with the relevant escrow agent in advance of closing, and ensuring that there is communication throughout the transaction with either the buyer or the seller.

Unlocking Potential: Developing Business Aviation in Latin America https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/07/unlocking-potential-developing-business-aviation-in-latin-america/ https://www.jetcraft.com/jetstream/2024/07/unlocking-potential-developing-business-aviation-in-latin-america/#respond Tue, 30 Jul 2024 15:31:20 +0000 https://www.jetcraft.com/?p=100697 Aviation in Latin America is experiencing significant change, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) projecting robust 4.5% growth per year over the next decade. For business aviation, Ultra High Net Worth Individuals are also a rising force, with Jetcraft’s latest Market Forecast finding 14.3% of its buyers aged under 45 are from the region, a reflection of increasing wealth.

Meeting the needs of executives, entrepreneurs and communities which are significantly underserved by commercial airlines, business aviation fills a void in Central and South America that no other form of transport can.

Infrastructure gaps

Of Brazil’s 5,500 municipalities, only about 130 are covered by commercial aviation routes (ALTA). This snapshot of an acute necessity for connectivity is replicated across the continent.

With commercial flight options limited, and travel times by boat or train often rolling into days, business aviation’s flexibility and efficiency is fueling its demand across the region. Time-pressured executives conducting operations beyond borders also prefer the privacy and convenience offered by a business aviation terminal, where long queues and scheduled flight times don’t exist.

We’re also seeing clients who first experienced flying privately during the pandemic transition from charter into full ownership as they recognize that having their own aircraft is now essential to further their business growth. For them, going back to the airlines is not a viable option.

A vast continent

Due to the size of Latin America and the large distances involved in both regional and international travel, we see high demand particularly for large jets, with aircraft such Gulfstream’s G550 or Embraer’s Legacy 600 offering the range and speed necessary to fly longer distances and navigate the continent efficiently.

Super midsize and midsize jets like the Cessna Citation or Bombardier Learjet series also remain popular, providing the capability to facilitate cross-border travel while still ensuring optimal comfort and performance.

The preference for these aircraft types isn’t a coincidence; it highlights the unique requirements of the Latin American economy where agriculture and mining dominate, driving a pressing need for international connectivity.

Confidence in the future

Despite economic and political fluctuations, Central and South America show promise and potential for sustained growth in business aviation. Recent elections in Brazil and Argentina have supported economic growth and opened new business opportunities.

This is where the right support and local expertise proves invaluable. Jetcraft stands out in the Latin American aviation landscape for its unparalleled global presence and client-centric approach. We provide total market visibility, sourcing opportunities that others can’t reach thanks to our boots on the ground across the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and beyond.
